Master Thesis: Weather impact on coverage for NR mmW


The 3GPP standards for mobile communication (GSM, WCDMA, LTE, and NR) defines principles for mobile communication. These standards are deployed on various frequency bands.

The mmW standard uses a magnitude higher carrier frequency and it will affect the radio channel.  A consequence is different propagation behaviours.

Master Thesis Scope

The present thesis work will be conducted using a live test site for NR mmW and LTE. On the site all mobile activity can be monitored simply by using special mobile phones. Given the site and its’ physical environment we would like to understand the radio channel.

A measurement campaign under various weather conditions will be a part, to explore the physical channel characteristics. The result of the campaign is collected in terms of what matters. In addition, the measured channel shall also be modelled so that it can be used in simulations e.g., a raytracing model.
