A Versatile System for Radar Testing

The PC RADAC version 5 is a small, easily transportable version of our well-known series of radar testing systems. The software, running under MS-Windows NT, is user friendly and provides in its standard version the most common radar evaluation functions.

Data communication is implemented through one of our own I/O cards, the  RACE card. The RACE card is a PCMCIA card type II.

Recording and Playback

The system, equipped with one RACE card, is capable of recording and playback independently of two channels of radar data. If supported by the laptop computer, an additional RACE card my be added. Each channel is accurately time stamped by an internal or external clock. The external clock can be either IRIG-B or GPS clock output. The data transfer is handled by processors on the interface card and transferred by DMA to the PC processor. New data formats can easily by adapted, since the card is capable of HDLC transfer as well as a transparent mode.

Display

The PPI type of display can be used for maintenance and demonstration purposes. It works during both recording and playback, but can also be used to look at incoming or stored data with no need to record or play data back. The data can further be displayed in non real-time for quick check of large amounts of data. The display has a number of functions such as: zoom in, zoom out, map, range markers, long/lat grid, vector etc.

Tracking

Tracking (chaining) functions are available to facilitate the analysis of individual target data. The tracking can be done at any time after the recording is completed. The process is automated to a high degree, but the user can still control the process. Two basic modes are available. One is manually initiated, where the user picks each target, the tracking is performed automatically and the user can make corrections. The second mode is all automatic and based on the SSR codes. In this mode tracks are created for all targets with SSR and the process is completely automatic.

Analysis

The analysis is aimed mainly at RADAC track related data (plot chains), but also the complete set of plot data can be analysed. The analysis is based on the parameters of each individual plot, on which statistical methods are applied. The user can easily select the data set used for the analysis, which is executed instantaneously. The main types of analysis, supported in the basic version, are coverage and accuracy. By listing the data and importing it into for example Excel virtually any parameter can be examined versus another parameter, time or revolution. We can also add special analysis functionality tailored to different customer needs.

Diagrams

The results of the analyses are displayed in diagrams. Line, scatter, error bar and histogram diagram types are available. The scaling is fully automatic and the diagrams can be copied into a word processor in order to be included in reports etc.

SSR Statistics

This analysis is based only on SSR plots. It includes coverage, accuracy and garbling. The result is displayed in tabular form for each individual track and with summaries for selected tracks and the total number of tracks in the recording. This gives an overall performance figure of the SSR as well as the possibility to easily check individual peculiarities.
