Introduction of the Rakel digital emergency radio communications system helps create a safer society
A number of years ago it was acknowledged that there was a lot of room for improvement in Sweden when it came to responding to accidents. For this reason the government decided that Sweden should have a common communications system (Rakel) whose main purpose would be to enable the emergency response organisations to communicate using the same system.
The key player in this system is its operator, the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB). When a user (a county, municipality, governmental authority, infrastructure agencies, ambulance or rescue service, etc.) is due to introduce Rakel in its organisation, the MSB requires that a working method be adhered to if Rakel is to be used. Combitech has many years’ experience of both the Tetra technology and the activities of the users. It is therefore now helping many of the user organisations introduce Rakel. We can see many positive benefits from the introduction of Rakel and we are already finding that coordination is a lot better when accidents happen.
