Carbon Disclosure Project – climate check
CDP was established in 2003. It is an international organisation which can count on the financial support of a third of the world’s total investment capital. Combitech has a very responsible role to play in Saab’s involvement in CDP.
The aim of CDP is to generate long-term dialogue between investors and companies about how the companies’ business affects changes in global climate. The dialogue is based on a questionnaire which is sent out to just over 3,000 companies throughout the world. The questionnaire consists of two parts, one dealing with statistics and the other containing in-depth questions. The statistics part involves an emissions mapping deriving from Saab’s business operation, e.g., business trips, test flights, heating of premises, etc. The in-depth aspect gives a detailed review of the structure of the company’s environmental work as well as what global warming entails, in the company’s view, in terms of both opportunities for and threats to the company’s business prospects and future.
Saab has been participating in the project since 2006, assigning Combitech a very responsible role within it. Our main assignment has been to form an overall picture of the impact of climate change on the Saab Group’s business interests, and the nature of the environmental work pursued throughout the Group. For this purpose, we have collated and compiled a statistical base as well as other environmental information from business units, subsidiaries and suppliers. The result? When in autumn 2010 CDP ranked the 200 biggest companies in Scandinavia by awareness of environmental impact, Saab came in the top two.
