Combitech in an architecture project – FMT 08-10
FMT is a big project within the Strategic Materiel Management unit of the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV SML), focusing on architecture and support for architecture work. Combitech’s involvement in the project began in autumn 2008, continuing into the summer of 2010.
A number of production units were tasked with producing architecture descriptions, either with Combitech having sole responsibility for the architecture support, or where this was shared with other teams. The production related to architectures of differing levels and focus. A number of aspects were involved, including the modelling of capabilities, activities, information and resources in the form of units, technical systems, organisations, roles, etc.
Combitech contributed method support for planning the architecture work, production of views and implementation of the architecture production. Application instructions for using MODAF in general and MODAF in conjunction with a specific tool (MooD) were also produced.
Combitech also produced processes and general rules for configuration management of the models, as well as performing practical tests in accordance with these rules and processes.
The MooD (Salamander) tool was used for architecture production, and instructions were drawn up for the optimum use of this tool for the purposes of supporting the production in question.
Combitech was actively involved in identifying and producing suitable elements for reuse from architecture descriptions and in recommending how these might best be used.
It was decided early on that production management for the entire project should be based on SCRUM principles. The method for production management was developed and applied throughout the project, both for method production generally and instances of architecture production.
