Environmental protection on board
Alfa Laval’s core activities are based on three key technologies: heat transfer, separation and fluid handling. One of their products, PureBallast, a system for cleaning ballast water, is used on vessels the world over to prevent the spread of microorganisms that can have a major impact on ecosystems if allowed to spread from one geographical region to another.
When Alfa Laval received an enquiry from a foreign military authority outlining a requirement for Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), Alfa Laval turned to Combitech, as the company had had no previous experience in supplying a defence industry customer. Combitech produced a maintenance schedule and spare parts proposal based on Alfa Laval’s experience in supplying similar systems, but also in accordance with the standards applying within the ILS field. On the basis of this, Alfa Laval was able to clearly see the benefits to be had in applying the ILS method to its current maintenance concepts in order to further optimise them.
